Welcome to our shop for Blu-ray disc players.
Once you start watching high-definition pictures in your home, there is one thing that is certain - you are going to want to watch as much HDTV as you can.
The problem is there are still limited ways to watch high-definition images. While TV channels are starting to make more HD content available, watching Blu-ray discs is the best way to watch full 1080p content - plus they come with high-definition soundtracks too.
If you need to understand a little more about Blu-ray technology, then check out our introduction to Blu-ray players.
However, if you already know what you want then check out our buyers guide and then go to the shop where you can find the most popular brands - including Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and LG.
Click on a product link to get technical information on each player - plus you will also find user ratings and reviews.
Blu-ray Player Buyers Guide
Things to consider:
1.
Does the player produce an excellent 1080p picture? Read some of the user reviews with each model and find out what people are saying.
2.
Some people will use their player for listening to CDs and stereo music. If so, you will want a player that performs well at playing music as well as movie soundtracks.
3.
Will you be watching DVDs as well as Blu-ray discs? Some players
upscale a DVD image better than others.
4.
Do you need the player to play back other formats such as
SACD or
DVD-Audio? What about support for
3D TV?
5.
If you are planning on using the high-definition audio soundtracks available on Blu-ray -
Dolby TrueHD or
DTS-HD Master Audio - does the player just bitstream the data to your AV receiver or will it decode the audio on-board first? If that sounds gobbledygook to you - go here for information on
decoding Dolby and DTS audio formats.
6.
Make sure the player has all the right connections you need for wiring it to your system. Most modern devices use the
HDMI connector to transfer the sound and picture, but is this supported by your other hardware? If not, you will need different connections for the picture and sound. Will you be connecting the player straight to your HDTV - or are you using an AV receiver? Go to our
introduction to AV receivers if you need more information on this.
7.
Many players now support connections to your home LAN. They may come with Wi-Fi or ethernet capabilities allowing you to connect to the internet for
BD-Live content, firmware upgrades or online services like
BBC iPlayer or YouTube.
Click on each product link to get more technical information on each player - to find user reviews and ratings - and also to add the product to your shopping cart.
