I want to buy a high definition player for my new hdtv but i'm not sure what to buy. As far as i understand, i have the choice between hd dvd and blu ray. But i'm not sure of the difference between them.

Can someone give me some advice?

Your information is slightly out of date. You are correct that there used to be a choice between HD DVD and Blu-ray for watching high-definition discs, however Toshiba pulled HD DVD from the market in 2008.

HD DVD was actually pretty similar to Blu-ray - and some argued that it offered slightly better quality and features - but since it is no longer available then it is a redundant argument.

Some people used the fact that HD DVD wasn't being developed any more to buy cheap HD DVD players and discs - but I'm not sure how available they are now.

At this time, you would be better of going with Blu-ray and benefit from this evolving technology. You can get a fantastic 1080p HD picture and high-definition audio on Blu-ray movies now. It's well worth it.

Follow the links below and you will find much more detailed information on many aspects of Blu-ray technology.

All the best.
