Can I use a surround processor without a receiver?

I have a question I'm hoping somebody can answer. Can I use a surround processor without a receiver in a home theater surround system? Thanks for your answers...

Hi

Yes you can......but not without a power amplifier.

To put it simply, an integrated surround sound receiver has a surround processor and multichannel amplifier all built into one unit.

You can buy a separate surround sound processor (like the Rotel RSP-1570 for example), but this is known as a pre-amplifier. In other words, you need to connect this to a separate multichannel power amplifier before you will hear anything!

As a general rule, separate surround processors and power amplifiers are higher quality (and more expensive) than integrated surround multichannel receivers.

Hope that helps.
