Canton 80 CX - subwoofer works but not speakers

I have just bought a Canton cx 80 speaker system, and though the subwoofer works there is nothing coming from the speakers. I take it they are connected to the back of the subwoofer ...yes/no????

Speaker Output

Normally all of your other speakers are attached to your "Receiver".

The subwoofer may be attached to your "Receiver" by a "Line" connection; some subwoofers are attached by a "Speaker" connection.

I think when your subwoofer is attached as a Speaker connection, it is attached to your "Right" speaker output; I'm not sure about this. It might be attached to your "Left" speaker output. You might want to check your Receiver Manual, especially if your subwoofer does not have a dedicated output on your receiver.
