Connecting DVD and TV Digi box to stereo receiver

Well as a donkey when it comes to technology I found some articles very useful indeed. I am trying to integrate my music and home cinema via a stereo receiver. I am quite content just to have two speakers for the cinema rather than five or seven.

I have this amp in mind: Yamaha AS300. Question is, in the back it does not have a specific input that says "DVD" "TV" "Satellite box" etc... it has "CD" "phono" and then some spare inputs numbered 1 to 3, with "line" written. Will I be able to connect my DVD and satellite box with these inputs?

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi

Yes, you can connect your DVD and satellite box into any of the 'line' inputs. You can even use the 'CD' input if you wish.

The 'CD' connection and the other 'line' inputs, are known as 'line level' connections. This refers to the strength of signal sent by most consumer AV devices. This line level signal is then amplified by the…. well, amplifier…... before being sent to the speakers.

The 'CD' label is just there for your convenience so that you know that the CD player is connected to that input - and this will be written on the front of the amp where you select the input device. However, you don't have to plug in a CD player, you can use whatever you like!

The only one you shouldn't use is the 'Phono' input, as this is designed to receive signals from a turntable - and these produce much lower level signals than the other 'line level' inputs.

Hope that helps.
