DAC with Sony BDP 370 or not?
by JANNAS
Can you please assist with this problem. I have got a Sony BDP 370 and a Integra 30.2 AV amp. Will the sound be better if you connect a DAC to the system or is the system OK as is? Hi It's hard to give a definitive answer without hearing the equipment. However, speaking very generally, it probably would sound better. The Sony is a decent player, but isn't up to audiophile standards. However, you have a fairly good AV receiver and so the DAC in this should sound pretty good. So firstly, connect the Blu-ray into the receiver via a digital connection so that you use the DAC in the receiver. This should get you the best audio with your existing equipment. The next question is, will a dedicated DAC sound better than the one in the receiver? Probably. Any dedicated device should work better than a collection of components in a device like an AV receiver. However, if possible you should try and go and get somebody to demonstrate the difference with equipment of a similar spec to yours. So get down to your local AV store if you can. Also, you should have some reasonably good speakers connected to your receiver if you are to hear any difference. All the best.
