Extended Warranty On LCD HDTVs
by Nick
I recently had a repair guy try & solve some popping noises w/ my new Samsung 40". Although they are not electronic related, he did suggest I get an extended warranty as the power &/or mother boards on any LCD have a tendency to fail quite regularly, especially after the 1 year warranty period is over. Hi I'm not aware of any general issues with LCD TVs and their power boards/power supplies - but then I don't repair TVs every day like your guy! I certainly wouldn't expect any new TV to have a high probability of failing within the first couple of years - so hopefully this isn't the case here. Extended warranties are always a tricky issue. You buy them for years with no problems - and then the first time you don't bother you need one! I always try and get a good deal on an extended warranty when I buy the TV, as you are in a better position to get a good deal - but often I don't bother and hope for the best as they can be expensive. Unfortunately I can't help much more here. I did come across this site which you may find interesting: http://www.crovean.net/samsung-lcd-tv-power-up-problem I'm not suggesting there is a problem with Samsung LCD TVs per se, but make of that what you will... I will tweet Samsung Service and invite them to add something to this topic. Is there anybody else out there who has had problems with the boards on LCD TVs? All the best.
