HDMI Matrix Switch Shop

Welcome to our HDMI matrix switch shop.

A matrix is one of the best ways to have complete control over routing different video/audio sources around your home cinema setup.

What is an HDMI matrix switch?

A matrix switch will have multiple inputs for your source devices, and several outputs sending these sources to your TV screens and projectors. You can buy different models with various configurations of ins and outs.

The matrix allows you to select which input source gets sent to a particular output. This allows great freedom when you need to watch different things in different rooms.

For example, a 5x4 matrix will have five inputs and four outputs. You can connect your Sky TV box, a games console, 2 Blu-ray players and a PC into the inputs. Then you can connect each output to 3 flat screen TVs in different rooms and a projector.

The device will then allow you to send any of the input sources to any of the outputs. You can have 2 different Blu-ray movies in different rooms and watch Sky TV on the projector at the same time.

This type of device is similar to an HDMI splitter and a switch, but allows more control over the routing of the sources.

Buying Guide

Things to consider:

  • How much control do you need? Maybe a splitter will be sufficient?
  • If you need longer cables (10m+), some devices will provide signal boosting
  • Allow extra outputs and inputs for future equipment purchases
  • Does it support all the audio formats you require? e.g. DTS 5.1 or Dolby TrueHD
  • Does the matrix support the HDMI versions you need - 1.3, 1.4, HDCP etc.
  • Does it pass the resolutions you need for your TVs and projectors?
  • You can usually configure the routing by push buttons on the device or a remote control (some have both) - which is better for you?
