How many HDMI cables do I need ?
by Manel
I have a Plasma TV (3 years old) and a new Home Cinema. The video & audio works fine on the Home Cinema -> TV direction with a HDMI cable but I'm not able to listen the TV in the Home Cinema. Do I need a new HDMI cable from TV to the home cinema HDMI input? Hi You cannot send the audio from a TV to the home cinema receiver down the HDMI cable - unless you have a new TV and receiver that have HDMI 1.4 that support the 'audio return channel'. As your TV is 3 years old, it won't have HDMI 1.4. To get sound from your TV to your receiver, your TV will need an audio output on the back. This can be analog stereo or a digital connection. However, this is only true if you are receiving your TV signal via the internal digital tuner (using an aerial connected to the rear). If you are receiving your TV signal from an external box like a satellite TV or cable box, then just take the audio output from the back of these boxes and send this to your receiver. This would be connected something like this: ![]() Hope that helps. Paul (Site Editor) Feel free to join in this discussion by adding your own comments below...
