How to connect floor speakers, home theater and surround sound system
by Adam
I have a 7.1 Sony receiver STR DN1010 and two floor speakers FS7000. Do I need a home theater surround sound system in addition? And how would I connect them? Hi Well, you don't have to use a surround sound speaker system with your AV receiver. It is fine to connect your two speakers to the front left and right outputs, and just have a stereo system. Alternatively, it may seem a shame to have a 7.1 receiver and not actually have surround sound in your room. It really depends on what you want to hear. If you want to have surround sound, then you don't necessarily have to buy a complete surround sound speaker package (although that is an option). As you already have two floor speakers, then you could just buy a center speaker, two surrounds (or four surrounds for 7.1) and a subwoofer. You would then add these to your existing setup to get surround sound in your room. The challenge with doing this would be to get new speakers that would match the sound of your existing pair. Another option is to just buy a subwoofer, and you could then have a 2.1 system. Although, if your existing speakers already provide good low bass for you, then this may not achieve much over what you already have. You have plenty of options! Hope that helps.
