Marantz SR5005 and UD5005 sound quality for music and movies

I have a Marantz SR 5005 and Marantz UD5005. I love the sound for movies and such, but when I play a music CD it sounds like someone threw a blanket over the speakers. I've been all through the various settings with the Marantz tech support people to no avail. Any advice appreciated.

Hi,

Does the amp have a 2 ch stereo setting? If so use it and see what the difference is. Usually in my experience very few have separate DACS for Hi Fi and surround sound. One of the few that I thought worked very well on both was the Audio Pro dvd-1 unit this is a Swedish manufacturer.
