Matching Bose Acoustimass 600 speakers to a new Onkyo HT-RC260 receiver

Will my 10 year old Bose speakers (Acoustimass 600) work with a new Onkyo HT-RC260 receiver? From the Onkyo manual: You can connect speakers with an impedance of between 6 and 16 ohms.

From the Bose Manual: compatible with A/V receiver rated from 4-8 ohms.

From my ohm meter: 8.5 ohms at speaker.

Hi

They will probably work fine - but you may want to think twice if you are somebody who likes to run your AV receiver at maximum volume all the time!

The Onkyo receiver isn't recommended for speakers with an impedance below 6 ohms - and the Bose specifications suggest that the speakers may well fall to 4 ohms at times.

Remember an impedance will vary over time depending on the frequency of the signal. This is why there is an impedance range suggested.

However, even though the Onkyo doesn't recommend below 6 ohms, you will most likely be fine if you keep volumes at a reasonable level. If you turn the Onkyo volume control near maximum for long periods, then the low impedance of the Bose speakers may cause the receiver to overheat and shut down.

Hope that helps.
