Migrating to new Amp for HDMI input capability - Is it worth it?

I have a Nakimishi AV-10 A/V Receiver that has served me well for many years. I am still happy with it in fact, however there is no HDMI input to enable HD Audio via LPCM from the Blue Ray Player.

I've been debating if I should buy a new A/V receiver so I could bitstream or receive LPCM via HDMI and enjoy the increased dynamic range available.

AV-10 has 24Bit/48.1Khz audio capability. The question mark in my mind: Is the difference actually noticeable for the thousand or so investment required, or are we talking splitting hairs??

Thanks for any insight.

So, is it worth spending a few thousand just to get HD audio? For what it's worth, here's a quick Q&A with my take on your question:

Does HD audio sound better than Dolby Digital and DTS? Yes.

What's different? Deeper and more-defined bass end, crisper highs and more accurate imaging around the sound-field.

Is it like night and day? No.

Does DD and DTS 5.1 still sound pretty good? Yes.

Will most home users notice the difference? Probably not.

Are your expectations the same as 'most home users'? You tell me.

Bottom line? If you're the type who takes an interest in sound and picture quality then you will notice the difference.

If you're the type who just wants to put on a movie, sit back and enjoy - you probably won't appreciate the difference.

How about going to a 'quality' AV store with a proper demo room and get them to show you the difference. There's no substitute for your own opinion!

Probably not much help, but there you go. :-)

All the best.

Good point about experiencing a demo.

I find sound quality to be extremely important for the enjoyment of music and or movies. I have to say I am tempted to update and anxious to hear for myself.

Thanks for the site and input..
