No sound from pioneer vsx-821-k receiver

I have a new pioneer vsx 821k receiver. My speakers work during the test sounds but I can't get any sound for my tv or a brand new dvd player. Both are hooked up with hdmi cables.

Hi

Firstly, I would check the audio output settings of the DVD player, and make sure that it is enabled to send audio over HDMI. Some players may try to send audio via coaxial or optical by default - some may only use the HDMI cable for video.

Next, make sure you have selected the correct input on the AV receiver. Are you sending the picture and sound through one HDMI cable into the receiver? Are you seeing the picture on the TV? If so, this would suggest your connection is working ok.

As for the sound from the TV. How do you receive you TV signal? If you are using an internal tuner on the TV (rather than an external box like you would get for a cable TV system), then your TV needs to have an audio output for you to connect to your receiver.

Hope that helps.
