Pioneer VSX-920 and Monitor Audio BX5 speakers

I am planning to buy these two items, I dont know whether it is the right decision or not. Both of them had very good review, but i dont know whether i can upgrade these to a 5.1 system in the future.

Please help.

Hi

I think they would be a good choice. If they fit your budget then I'm sure you will be happy with the results.

It's always best to try and demo audio products to get an idea of the sound for yourself. So try and find a retailer near you that stocks Pioneer and Monitor Audio products and see if they have a demo room.

However, if that is not possible, then I agree that these are highly rated by many people, so hopefully you will be more than happy with the sound.

As for 5.1, yes you can easily add more speakers to your setup at a later date. Monitor Audio offer Bronze BX versions of a subwoofer, a center speaker and surround speakers.

Here is the Monitor Audio BRONZE BX Centre Speaker

You could use the BX1, BX2 or BX FX for the surrounds

Here is the BXW10 Subwoofer

However, you don't always need to match the speakers from the same range - it just comes down to finding a good match in terms of sound and looks. Buying the same range does make this slightly more straightforward.

All the best.

Boston 5.1
by: Tuan

Thanks very much for your comment Paul.
I bought 2 items as I mentioned, I haven't got the chance to match them yet as I am gonna bring them back to my country very soon. But you give me peace of mind when I make the payment. I am planning to buy one more 5.1 speaker to complete the system. The MA 5.1 are quite expensive for me. How do you think if I take Boston 5.1? This one is cheap and it has a good review as well.
Tell me your thoughts please!

Cheers
Tuan.

Boston Speakers

Hi

Hope you are enjoying the MA BX5s. I expect they sound pretty good.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean when you say you are going to buy a 5.1 speakers to complete the system.

Do you mean you will buy a full 5.1 package and add the centre, surrounds and sub to your MA BX5 to make a full 5.1 system? Or you could use the two extra speakers for a 7.1 system I suppose.

Well, you could do that. It will probably sound ok. However the MA BX5 speakers are in a different league to the Boston system, so it may be a little difficult to match the sound around the whole system.

For what it's worth, here's what I would do. I would put together a system bit by bit when you can afford it.

With the BX5 floorstanders, you could probably do without a subwoofer for a while, they will handle the bottom end pretty well.

I would buy the matching MA BX Centre speaker when you can afford it. You will then have a good 3.0 system.

You can then get some surrounds later on. It's less important to match these to your front speakers so you can spend a bit less on these and buy a different brand if you wish.

You will then have a nice 5.0 system (or 7.0 if you prefer).

Finally, get a subwoofer when you have the money. However, with the floorstanding speakers you have already you will only really add the very low bass effects from movies when you put in a good sub.

Any make of sub will do. BK and SVS are good brands to check out.

Hope that helps.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Your guide helps me a lot regarding to my home cinema system, it helps me avoid a mistake of just buying what I have read on the review.

I will buy BXs centre speaker here in the UK and surrounds and subwoofer will be bought when I got budget.
Once again, thank you very much for your help.

Regards
Tuan
