Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray player with Yamaha RX-V2092 AV receiver

I just purchased a new Samsung BD-C5500 Blue ray player. I am using an older Yamaha Rx-v2092 that can decode DD 5.1 and not DTS. It seems the only way I can listen to a Blu Ray (Repo Man) is to turn the audio controls to pcm. It then seems I'm not getting the true 5.1 channel effects.

Is there another way to do it so I can get 5.1 Dolby Digital?

In the audio setting for the Blu Ray there is pcm, bitstsream, and I believe audiophile bitstream settings.

Hi

Yes, if you set the Samsung BD-C5500 to PCM, then you will only get stereo audio over optical.

You want to connect your Blu-ray player to the Yamaha receiver via optical - and set the Samsung audio setting to Bitstream (audiophile). The Bitstream (re-encode) option would normally be better, but this encodes to DTS over optical which you say your receiver doesn't support.

Setting to Bitstream (audiophile) will send Dolby Digital over optical for your receiver to decode. If you don't hear anything, then it is probably due to a setting on your Yamaha RX-V2092 AV receiver.

Make sure you select the DVD/LD input and check the input setting is set to 'auto' rather than 'analog'. This is on page 51 of the manual.

There are detailed guides to the different audio codecs and surround sound formats linked below.

Hope that helps.

All the best.
