Samsung C6900 Blu-ray - low sound on analog output
I have connected my Blu ray player Samsung C6900 with my old non hdmi Onkyo receiver HT3100 with 6 RCA cables. When I play blu ray disc, I get low sound in spite of increasing the volume. Secondly, how do I know that I am getting DTS HD MA 5.1 sound quality? Hi What you are probably hearing is a lack of bass, rather than a lack of volume overall. This is because the subwoofer channel is usually quieter than the rest of the track when you connect via analog cables. The '.1' channel (which has all the really low bass frequencies which get sent to your subwoofer), is recorded at 10dB lower than the rest of the soundtrack - and should then be played back with a 10dB boost to balance the sound on playback. This happens on a digital connection (like HDMI), but not analog. Therefore, if you connect your system using multichannel analog cables then you will probably need to boost the subwoofer channel by about 10dB to make it sound right. You may be able to do this from the audio setup options on your receiver, or you could just get the balance right by increasing the volume of your subwoofer (if it has a volume control). If you connect with analog cables, then your AV receiver won't indicate on the front panel that it is receiving DTS-HD Master Audio - because it isn't! Your player will be decoding the sound to LPCM and sending this. Therefore your receiver will just say it is receiving mulichannel audio. As long as you have selected the right soundtrack on the Blu-ray disc, then you will be hearing high definition audio. Hope that helps.
