Static in left surround speaker - Yamaha RX-V867

This evening, out of the blue, our left surround speaker developed significant static. Swapping the cable with the right, swapped the problem. Tried a different A/V receiver. No problems.

So, I conclude that the left surround channel of the Yamaha is to blame.

Could I have missed something simple?
