Welcome to our stereo amplifier shop.
When talking about home cinema systems, the stereo receiver or amplifier is usually ignored.
This is because one of the main aspects of watching movies at home is the ability to get surround sound. A good surround sound system definitely adds to the movie experience, but for this type of multi-channel audio you will need to buy an AV receiver.
However, there are plenty of people who don't want to place a number of speakers around their room - and would prefer to stay with stereo sound. It is not as if you won't be able to enjoy a movie. There is always a stereo soundtrack on your Blu-ray or DVD disc, and so you will always have good quality audio.
Therefore, the stereo amplifier or receiver still provides a good option for the modern home cinema. You can still get a good sound for movies, and a good quality stereo amplifier will often out-perform a budget AV receiver when it comes to playing music.
Go to our guide to stereo amplifiers and receivers if you want to find out more about using stereo instead of surround sound in your home cinema setup.

Stereo Receiver and Amplifier Buying Guide
Things to consider:
1.
The sound quality will vary between different brands. Read some user reviews (like the ones in the shop below) to understand what type of sound you can expect from a particular model.
2.
Does the receiver have enough inputs? Decide what you need to connect - Blu-ray player, DVD player, games console, satellite TV etc. - and make sure you understand how you will connect each device. Most stereo models only support analog audio - but you can find some with digital audio inputs.
4.
Stereo receivers aren't the only way to get 2.0 or 2.1 sound. Multichannel AV receivers also support 2.0, 2.1 and 3.1 sound - plus 5.1 or 7.1.
