Stereo Receiver and Amplifier Store
- Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo Reviews and Ratings

Welcome to our stereo receiver and amplifier store.

Stereo amplifiers are often forgotten when talking about home theater.

The reason for this is that one of the main features of watching movies in your home is the ability to get surround sound. There is no doubt that a good surround sound system definitely adds to the movie experience, but for this you will need to buy a surround sound receiver.

However, there are still many people who don't want to install extra speakers around their room and prefer to stick with stereo sound. There will always be a stereo soundtrack on your DVD or Blu-ray disc, so you will always have good quality audio.

Therefore, the stereo amplifier or receiver still has a place in the modern home theater setup. You can still get a good sound for movies, and a good stereo amplifier will often out-perform cheaper AV receivers when it comes to playing music.

Go to our introduction to stereo receivers if you need to understand a bit more about using stereo instead of surround sound in your home theater system.

Here we offer a buyers guide with a summary of the important things to consider when buying a 2-channel receiver, and then in our store below there are a wide selection of high-quality brands - including the Onkyo, Sony and Yamaha stereo receiver.

Buyers Guide - Stereo Amplifier and Receiver

Things to consider:

1.
Do you want 2.0 stereo - or a model that supports a subwoofer to get 2.1 audio? Go to the guide to speaker location and layout for more information.
2.
Make sure the receiver has enough inputs for all your external devices - DVD player, Blu-ray player, games console, cable TV box etc. Make sure you understand how you will connect each device to the receiver. Most stereo models only support analog audio - but there are some with digital audio inputs.
3.
What is the sound quality of the receiver? Read some user reviews (like the ones in the store below) and understand what type of sound you can expect.
4.
Make sure the receiver will support the specifications of your speakers. Find out more here about matching speakers and amplifiers.
5.
Remember, a multichannel AV receiver will not only support 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound - you can also use it for 2.0, 2.1 or 3.1 sound too. Stereo receivers aren't your only option.
