Stereo speakers

Hi

It certainly is possible - in fact, they are part of a surround sound system already!

In a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, you have six speakers. Front left and right, centre, surround left and right and a subwoofer.

Like so:

Diagram Of 5.1 Surround Sound System

The front left and right speakers are your stereo speakers. Any source you play that only has stereo sound (like a CD for example), will only play through the front left and right speakers (plus the subwoofer for the low bass).

It is only when you play a surround sound source (like a DVD film) that your system will use all six speakers.

The good thing is that once you have your surround sound system configured, then you don't have to worry too much about this, as your AV receiver will just automatically use the necessary speakers depending on the type of audio you are playing.

Also, if you wish, you can have better quality speakers as your front left/right pair for when you play music. It is perfectly acceptable to mix and match speakers to make a full system - as long as your AV receiver supports the specifications of each speaker.

Hope that helps.

Paul
