Surround sound system played through tv speakers

Is there any way of using a surround sound system dvd player but have the sound come through the television speakers? When watching a film late evening it is too loud through the speakers and disturbs the neighbours.

The surround sound system is a Sony home theater system - DAV-DZ330.

Look forward to your answers.

Hi

Page 26 of the manual says that a SCART connection sends both video and analog stereo audio signals.

Try using a SCART connection and see if the TV receives the stereo audio - although the picture quality will be worse than with HDMI.

From the manual, over HDMI it doesn't seem like audio is sent with the video signal to the TV (just from TV to the Sony). They've designed the system to play the audio, so I guess this isn't so surprising.

Alternatively, pick up a cheap DVD player and connect this directly to the TV to use late at night.

Hope that helps.
