Technophobe in the 21st century - Sky HD surround sound

I am still watching a 32" Sony CRT but upon the completion of gutting and redecorating my lounge I am going to join the 21st century. I have permission from her indoors for a wall mounted LED tv (as big as I can persuade her - she is wincing at 46", but I am working on her) and SKY HD.

Anyway, I like the Samsung's and was wondering with the all in one systems, as well as watching Blue Ray DVD's, can you pipe SKY through it. ie does Sky broadcast in 5.1 ? and when connected, does the surround sound still use your TV speakers in addition or are they made redundant.
