TV optical output and Sony KDL40EX403
by George
I have a Sony KDL40EX403 LCD TV. Can I use the optical output to any home cinema system to output the sound of all the inputs? I have a PS3 and a Sky HD box inputting through HDMI and I don't want to have to get multiple optical cables if I don't need to. Hi I don't know for sure, but I would think the digital audio output would only send the audio for the internal digital tuner - and not any other devices connected to it. However, this isn't a problem, as if you are going to buy a home cinema system then you would connect your PS3 and Sky HD through the home cinema system instead of directly to the TV. You just need to make sure you buy a system with enough inputs for your devices - so 2xHDMI and 1x optical for your current setup. If you buy an all-in-one system, then these sometimes have limited connections for external devices, so make sure you research the right system for your needs. A better option is usually a 'proper' AV receiver and speakers which will have many more options for connecting devices - although this can sometimes be a little more expensive (but not always). Your decision would come down to how much you have to spend, and the sound quality/flexibility of connections that you want. Hope that helps.
