Using tv speakers as front surround

Is it possible to use the speakers in my tv as the front surround speakers? Lack of space means I cannot have separate front speakers and so this would be a useful solution.

Interesting idea, but no you can't.

An AV receiver (surround sound amplifier) is the device that processes the surround sound and powers each surround speaker. However, there is no way you could drive the TV speakers from the surround amp......and even if you could, it wouldn't sound very good. The difference in sound quality between the TV speakers and the rest of the speaker set up would be too great.

Are you aware you can get some surround sound speaker packages with really small satellite speakers? Is there no way you could squeeze a couple of these in somewhere - either on wall brackets or sitting on your TV cabinet?

Alternatively, have you considered a soundbar? These are designed to sit along the front edge of your TV. While not 'true' surround sound, the better ones will be a big improvement over the TV speakers and still provide a virtual surround experience.

Or if you're feeling really adventurous, how about in-wall or in-ceiling speakers?

All the best.
