What is blu ray?

I keep hearing stuff about blu ray players and how good they are, but I don't really understand what it is. So my question is a simple one, what is blu ray?

Can someone tell me in simple terms that even I can understand?

Go easy on me :-)

Shame on you. You should have read our guide to Blu-ray players and you would have known the answer to this!

Anyway, I'll let you off this time. :-)

Basically, Blu-ray technology is an improvement on DVD discs/players. A Blu-ray disc holds six times the amount of data compared to a DVD. The benefit of this is that movies can be stored in high-definition formats (video and audio) and so Blu-ray will allow you to see a movie with a much better picture and sound.

You will need an HDTV to see the improved picture quality (the larger the better), and a good surround sound system to really appreciate the HD audio.

To play a Blu-ray disc, you will need to buy a Blu-ray player - they will not play on a normal DVD player. However, the Blu-ray player will play your old DVDs and CDs.

Anyway, check out the links below and you can get more in-depth details on Blu-ray players

All the best.
