Will this speaker impedance work with my amplifier?

by Steven Muscarella

My amplifier instruction manual shows speaker impedance at 4 Ohms. I have a set of Pioneer speakers showing 8 Ohms and Panasonic speakers showing 6 Ohms. I have been using my Pioneer speakers with no adverse results.

Can I use my panasonic speakers with my pioneer speakers without damage to my amp?

Hi

Yes, you will be fine. No need to worry.

If your amplifier supports speakers down to 4 ohms, then it will be fine with a speaker impedance higher than 4 - so 6 and 8 ohm will be no problem.

The thing to try and avoid is connecting speakers with a lower impedance than the amplifier supports. So 4 ohm speakers on an amplifier which only supports 8 ohm may be a problem.

The reason is a lower speaker impedance draws more power from the amplifier.

All the best.
