Worth upgrading my Pioneer VSX-808 AV receiver?

by Sasi

I currently use the Pioneer vsx808 (8yr old) av receiver - which obviously decodes DD, DTS and Prologic. I hardly watch blueray or dvd movies but watch movies on Sky (in UK) which only transmit sounds on DD.

So my question is, is it worth upgrading to latest models? Would I notice any improvement in sound quality? Your guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi

Unless you are going to buy a more expensive 'higher-end' receiver, then you probably won't notice much difference in sound quality.

A good amp from ten years ago is still a good amp.

If you wanted high-definition audio from a Blu-ray player, then just buy one that has analog multichannel outputs and connect it to the analog multichannel inputs on your receiver.

Unless you desperately need HDMI connectivity through your receiver, then you may be as well sticking with what you have.

Maybe spend the money on better speakers, that will probably improve the sound in your room more than changing the amplifier.

All the best.

Help - no pre out
by: Gordon

No pre out on my old Pioneer vsx-401. Is there any way to hook it up to the Niles amplifier that runs multi room sound? Think the previous homeowner pulled a fast one and switched out the good receiver.

Thanks.
