The Yamaha TSR series of AV receivers offer excellent sound quality, and the RX-S AV receiver range is a slim model. This guide compares the features of each.
You’re not alone if you are confused by all the different AV receivers in the Yamaha product range.
The best way to understand the different models is to compare them on a single page – and summarise the most important features of each.
Here are the main product ranges in the Yamaha AV receiver lineup:
- AVENTAGE Series: top-of-the-range models with the latest features, highest quality components, and engineering.
- RX-V Series: mid-range with many of the features expected in a modern AV receiver.
- TSR Series: mid-range with high-end audio converters for better audio performance.
- RX-S Series: slim and compact receivers for those with less space.
This page will compare the TSR Series and RX-S Series of AV receivers.
If you want a detailed comparison of the other two, look at the guides to Yamaha AVENTAGE AV receivers and the Yamaha RX-V receiver series.
The models below are from the last couple of years, and the release year is listed for each.
The MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) is useful to quickly show each model’s level. However, be aware that you will often be able to buy a receiver below the MSRP – especially if you can find an older model still in stock.
The specifications are from the US models, but these will often be similar worldwide.

YAMAHA RX-S SERIES
Compared to the rest of the Yamaha range, the RX-S series of AV receivers have one main advantage. These receivers are slim, compact models that will fit neatly into most home theater setups. The problem some people have with AV receivers is they are bulky and hard to hide. So, if you want the convenience of an AV receiver but not the installation headaches, maybe this is the way to go.
